The Department of Chemical Engineering, a DST –FIST sponsored department, was started in the year 1945. It was the second college to offer an undergraduate programme in Chemical Engineering in Tamilnadu. Prof.M.L.Joshi, Dr.K.C.Gulati, Dr.P.U.Pai, Prof.B.NarayanaDas, Prof.N.P.Palaniappan, Dr.S.M.Lakshmanan, Dr.AN.Andiappan, Dr.PL.Sabarathinam, Dr.N.Sitaraman, Prof.T.Karuppiah Prof.K.Vaidhiyanathan and Dr.T.Viruthagiri are the eminent scholars in the field of Chemical Engineering who had headed the department.
