St. Francis College for Women, started in 1959, is a Catholic minority Institution founded by the Sisters of Charity for the holistic education for empowerment of women. The college is housed in an impressive Eight acre campus in the heart of the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. From a student strength of 15 in 1959, the college has grown into a prestigious institution with a student force of 2400 and a faculty strength of 110 teaching and 80 non-teaching, offering Graduate and select Post Graduate, Diploma and Certificate Courses. Autonomy was conferred on the college by the UGC in 1988. Since then the college has proved to be a trendsetter in academic development with a commitment to a value system and qualitative self-improvement. Accredited with 5 stars by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) in the year 1999 and Reaccredited at the ‘A’ Level in the year 2006, it is the first autonomous college in the twin cities, affiliated to Osmania University, Andhra Pradesh. The University Grants Commission has identified the college as a ‘College with Potential for Excellence’ in the year 2004. The College has introduced Choice and Credit Based Semester System in the year 2005 as a positive step towards achieving parity with educational institutions elsewhere in the world. In keeping with the changing trends in the field of education at the global scenario, the college has also introduced Inter Disciplinary Electives (IDE) as an integral part of choice and Credit Based Semester System from June 2006. St. Francis has proved to be a trendsetter and has entered a new era of academic development, with a commitment to a value system, directed towards qualitative self- improvement . The year 2008-2009 had been a remarkable one as the college focused on “celebrating the past and shaping the future” with varied academic, cultural, sports and social outreach programmes as a part of its Golden Jubilee Celebrations. St. Francis would not have been the prestigious college it is, had academic excellence been its only claim to fame! The college encourages active participation from students in diverse extra-curricular programmes organised throughout the year. As part of its academic programmes, St. Francis College, Hyderabad has also incorporated value education for students. Life at St. Francis St. Francis College is known for a variety of reasons, apart from academic excellence and achievements. The college offers a wide spectrum of interests and activities and is built around a congenial environment which promotes all-round development of students coming from varied backgrounds across India. There is more life at St. Francis than just work and you will find yourself being encouraged to share an excellent social and cultural experience - one that you'll cherish and remember for life. A typical day at St. Francis starts at 9.45 a.m. with morning prayers in the college assembly. Students then move on to their respective classes which commence at 10.00 a.m. and continue till 12.30 p.m. Formal lectures are supplemented with stimulating discussions, audio visual aids and extension lectures. A half-hour lunch interval between 12.30 p.m. to 1.00 p.m. offers an exciting break in the day’s routine. Classes resume at 1.00 p.m. and continue till 3.30 p.m. The slot between 3.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. is utilised for co-curricular activities such as NNS, NCC, sports, extension lectures, screening of films, competitions and value education.
