Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated Xavier University in Nijigarh in Pipili Tahasil of Puri district (Near Bhubaneswar).
Xavier University is jointly promoted by the Odisha Jesuit Society and Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB). Xavier University has come up over sprawling 35 acres of land. The new university is mandated to reserve 50 per cent seats for the students of Odisha.
"Xavier University has clear vision to be an innovative one, with a global outreach. It has all the necessary support of the digital technology supplied by IT giants such as HP, IBM, Juniper and others. We have created the first digital university of India right here in this place," said Father Paul Fernandes, vice-chancellor, XUB, at the inauguration ceremony.
"It is a matter of concern that not a single university in India figures among the top 200 universities in the world. It is in this context that the role of private universities assumes importance," Patnaik said. "People look to the new generation of private universities to take up leadership role in terms of academic commitment and raising the standard of higher education," He stressed.
Naveen Patnaik informed that Odisha government is very serious in providing quality education in the state.
Pradeep Maharathy, minister for agriculture, fisheries & animal resource, Pradeep Kumar Panigrahi, minister for higher education and science and technology, John Barwa, arch bishop of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar diocese and Rajive Kaul, Chairman, Board of Governor, Xavier University were present.
