Wasudeo Namdeo Gade appointed as new VC of Pune University

Noted biologist Wasudeo Namdeo Gade has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of University of Pune. Pune University has been functioning without Vice Chancellor since last 8 months.

Wasudeo Namdeo Gade Gade has obtained his BSc in biology from the Nagpur university and later secured his MSc (life sciences), MPhil and PhD in life sciences from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He was a post-doctoral fellow in France and Sweden between 1988 and 1990. He has received the Lupin Endowment Award instituted by the University Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, and has served as a scientist in the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology of CSIR in Delhi for 20 years between 1983 and 2003. He was Reader and later Professor in the department of biotechnology, University of Pune, from July 2003 till he became BCUD chief.

    Ashoka University announced the appointment of Andre Beteille as new chancellor. Professor Andre Beteille was National Research Professor and Professor Emeritus of Sociology, Delhi School of Economics. professor Rudrangshu Mukherjee, a historian and eminent journalist was appointed as the vice-chancellor of the university. Andre Beteille has received Padma Bhushan in 2005 for his contributions in the field of Sociology. His studies of south india's cast system has been very famous.

    Gold medal instituted in memory of R Krishnakumar by Ambedkar College

    Dr Ambedkar College and many well wishers of late YCMOU vice chancellor R Krishnakumar have instituted a gold mdeal in his name to recognize his contribution to the educational sector. Dr. R. Krishnakumar died on 21st January 2014 at the age of 51. The medal will be presented to 'best principal' of Nagpur University. Rs 1.5 lakh has been handed over to NU Vice Chancellor Vila Sapkal by the Ambedkar college managment.

    Dr. Somnath Dasgupta will be the new vice-chancellor of Assam University, Silchar. Dasgupta is the director of the National Centre of Experimental Mineralogy and Petrology (NCEMP) under the University of Allahabad. He will be the fifth vice chancellor of Assam University. Dasgupta has also served as Director in the Geological Survey of India, Jadavpur University, Kolkata and in the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata.

He was a Professor at Banaras Hindu University and has served as Director (Research Management position) of ICAR, New Delhi. He is also a Visiting Scientist, University of Idaho, USA, Institute of Microbiology, Poland, INRA, France, Gifu University, Japan, Lund University, Sweden etc.
